BCI get all of its information on
applicants? Directly from Municipal
District and Superior
Courts, directly from the previous
employer, directly from Federal Courts,
directly from colleges and universities,
directly from applicable credit bureaus,
and in the case of Motor Vehicle
records, from an outside supplier that
gets its information directly from the
states on a daily basis.

What laws
govern the collection and use of the
kind of background check information you
make available? The FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) is
the law that governs background checks
and allows the applicant to have a copy
of our reports and to challenge it's
accuracy. The EEOC regulations allow you
to pre-screen applicants, but prohibits
you from hiring decisions based on sex,
age, race, etc.

It may be
legal to get this information on a job
applicant, but is it legal to use it to
make a hiring decision? Absolutely! Misstatements on an
application are grounds for dismissal of
an employee or denying an applicant. In
fact, if you hire a dangerous or
unqualified person into a position where
they could harm others, and a reasonable
inquiry would have revealed that
information, you can be held liable for
the employee's acts.

What happens
if I get a candidate for a job who has
an excellent resume and has other job
offers and I can't wait for a background
check? Hire that person contingent upon a
successful background check. If you find
that the person made misstatements on
their application or resume, that is
grounds for dismissal. Remember that our
Applicant Consent Form is your first
line of defense. If they know that you
are going to verify information they are
much less likely to misrepresent
themselves. Let us know that you need a
rush order and we will get you the
information ASAP.

Your brochure

more." What exactly are the other
services you offer? BCI has access to information from many
other sources which are beyond the scope
of pre-employment screening. For
instance, for criminal and civil records
we check with Municipal and Superior
Courts. We do not normally check Family
Court, Small Claims Court or Federal
Bankruptcy Court, but we can.
(Bankruptcies are revealed on credit
checks.) Today there is a wealth of
information services that we can access
to locate people, check on corporations,
verify ownership of property, find
hidden assets, etc. If you have a need,
ask us. Chances are, we can help.

Do you have
on-line order processing?
Yes, we
have on-line ordering processing and
retrieval and storage. We can process
your order using encrypted e-mail or we
can do it the old fashioned way, by fax,
which most people still find easier.
With BCI it is not necessary to type in
all of the information from an
application just to send it to us. We
don't want our clients doing our work
for us. Remember; we work for you!
